With Gigabit's theoretical 125 MB/sec limits, this device is over-kill on single NIC servers. You'll need Fast multiple NIC teaming or 10GbE networks to properly use this for multiple clients. Otherwise, there are mini-SAS eSATA solutions. Look elsewhere for a dedicated NAS system for your SOHO use.

That's exactly what i was planning on doing with either this or the pegasus r6. can you help me understand why not to do it?Unknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08590844479914293217noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5494320883029239656.post-12592236747790251302012-12-09T13:33:04.352-08:002012-12-09T13:33:04.352-08:00Great, thanks again.

The sound is forgivable considering it needs to cool 5 drives.

As for USB 3.0 I am getting 90-120 MB/s both read and write on both Windows and OSX. It averages in the mid 90s.fortysomethinggeekhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15749612412800861345noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5494320883029239656.post-79238403872512949932012-12-09T12:50:03.892-08:002012-12-09T12:50:03.892-08:00Thanks for your reply.

It's those high/pitched frequency noises that really get to me but those are usually associated with smaller fans so it would be interesting to hear about this 120mm from your point of view.

Also, have you done any further testing in using this with USB 3.0?
My old Mac Pro 2008 has no way of upgrading to Thunderbolt so I'd be stuck using a PCI-X to USB 3.0 card which I would link to the Drobo.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09194690063441461728noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5494320883029239656.post-62388465239108757952012-12-08T18:36:36.161-08:002012-12-08T18:36:36.161-08:00The fan makes some noise. It depends if you have other white noise to drown it out. I can live with it but others may not be so forgiving.

I dont have measurements but it sounds like a cheap 120 mm fan inside a computer case humming.fortysomethinggeekhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15749612412800861345noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5494320883029239656.post-24022272866758985412012-12-08T01:02:28.480-08:002012-12-08T01:02:28.480-08:00Did you ever find out the noise level of this encl...Did you ever find out the noise level of this enclosure?

I am in the same peculiar position where performance is a reason to buy/not to buy but the bigger one is in fact the noise level of the box so it would be great to hear if you found out anything about this.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09194690063441461728noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5494320883029239656.post-12652653772703810722012-11-23T01:43:06.532-08:002012-11-23T01:43:06.532-08:00Thanks for the review !
